Installation

To install Printer Management tool on HPE 9000 (PA-RISC) and Integrity servers:

  1. Log in to the system as root.
  2. After you have downloaded the depot (PrintCfg depot), move it to the /tmp directory.
  3. Verify the file has downloaded correctly using swlist.
    Note: swlist and swinstall require you to specify the complete path to the source depot.
    swlist -d @ /tmp/PrintCfg depot name
    
    # Initializing...
    # Contacting target "localhost"...
    #
    # Target:  localhost:/tmp/
    #
     
    #
    # Bundle(s):
    #
     
     PrintCfg  Web based Printer Management tool 
    
  4. Back up your system before installing the product.
  5. On a stand-alone system, run the following command to install the product:
    swinstall -s /tmp/PrintCfg depot name 
    

Uninstalling Printer Management

The Printer Management software can be uninstalled using the following command:

$ swremove UserGroups

Launching Printer Management

You can open the graphical user interface (GUI) of Printer Management tool using the lpweb and smh commands, and the web browser. The text user interface (TUI) can be opened using only the command. To perform certain operations on the tool, root privilege may be required.

Opening GUI tool using web browser

To open the GUI tool using web browser:

  1. In the browser address bar type http://<hostname>:2301
    The home page of System Management Homepage (SMH) opens.
  2. Log in to SMH using your username and password.
    The main page of SMH opens.
  3. In the menu bar, click Tools.
    The Tools page opens.
  4. In the Tools page, click either Printer Management (web-based) or click an item under Printer Management(web-based).
    The Printer Management tool opens.

Opening GUI tool using commands

You can use the lpweb and the smh commands to open the graphical user interface of the tool. The lpweb command enables you to directly reach the tool whereas the smh command leads you to the SMH home page from where you can navigate to the required tool.

To open the GUI tool using the lpweb command:

  1. Log in to the system.
    You can do this locally or remotely.
  2. Set the DISPLAY variable.
  3. Run the command: lpweb
    The command connects to a web browser and opens the SMH login page.
  4. Log in to SMH using your username and password.
    The main page of the Printer Management tool opens.

To open the GUI tool using the smh command:

  1. Log in to the system.
    You can do this locally or remotely.
  2. Set the DISPLAY variable.
  3. Run the command: smh
    The command connects to a web browser and opens the SMH login page.
  4. Log in to SMH using your username and password.
    The main page of SMH opens.
  5. In the menu bar, click Tools.
    The Tools page opens.
  6. In the Tools page, click either Printer Management(web-based) or click an item under Printer Management(web-based).
    The Printer Management tool opens.

Opening TUI tool using commands

You can use the lpweb and the smh commands to open the text user interface of the tool. The lpweb command enables you to directly reach the tool whereas the smh command leads you to the SMH main window from where you can navigate to the required tool.

To open the TUI tool using the lpweb command:

  1. Log in to the system.
    You can do this locally or remotely.
  2. If a DISPLAY variable is already set, unset the DISPLAY variable.
  3. Run the command: lpweb
    The TUI of Printer Management opens.

To open the TUI tool using the smh command:

  1. Log in to the system.
    You can do this locally or remotely.
  2. If a DISPLAY variable is already set, unset the DISPLAY variable.
  3. Run the command: smh
    The TUI of HPE SMH opens.
  4. In the HPE SMH main window, do one of the following:
    Select Printers and Plotters(new) and press the ENTER key.
    OR
    Press the "l" key.

    Note: In the TUI, keys are case sensitive.
