HP-UX PHP for HP-UX 11i v3

End of Support for PHP 5.6.x
PHP 5.6.x will not be supported on HP-UX 11iv3 from January 1, 2019. HPE recommends migrating to the latest PHP version 7.2.x.

It is recommended migrating to the newer HP-UX PHP 7.2.x version.

  • HP-UX PHP 5.6.10.x or later will continued to be delivered as standalone and will not be included in Apache-base web server.

  • HP-UX PHP 7.2.x or higher supports Apache web server 2.4.x. See the Installation page for configuration details.

What is PHP?

PHP is a server-side scripting language that allows for easy development of complex web-based applications. It runs on many platforms and has a short learning curve.


This release of HP-UX PHP E. is based on open source PHP 7.2.1.

Extensions for PHP

HP-UX PHP comes bundled with some useful extensions. These extensions enhance the functionality available to PHP scripts. Complete technical documentation for these extensions along with sample code is available at
    The following extensions are part of the HP-UX PHP.

  • Sockets (

    Provides an interface to the socket communication functions based on the popular BSD sockets.

    Dependency: None

  • Ftp (

    Provides client access to file servers speaking the File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

    Dependency: None

  • Ldap (

    Use this extension to connect to Directory Servers using the LDAP protocol

    Dependency: libldap and liblber, which are available as part of PHP package

  • Dom (

    The DOM extension is a replacement for the DOMXML extension from PHP 4. The extension allows you to operate on an XML document with the DOM API.

  • Zlib (

    This module enables you to transparently read and write gzip (.gz) compressed files, through versions of most of the file system functions which work with gzip-compressed files (and uncompressed files, too, but not with sockets).

  • Image ( :

    Is used to create and manipulate image files in a variety of different image formats like png, jpg, wbmp, and xpm.

  • Soap (

    The SOAP extension can be used to write SOAP Servers and Clients.

    Dependency: None

  • Openssl:

    This extension uses the functions of OpenSSL for generation and verification of signatures and for sealing (encrypting) and opening (decrypting) data. OpenSSL offers many features that this module currently doesn't support.
    Note: In PHP of version 5.6.22 onwards, Openssl extension is in-built in core PHP, so it is not required to load it explicitly

  • Ftp (

    Provides client access to file servers speaking the File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

  • Curl:

    This extension allows you to connect and communicate to many different types of servers with many different types of protocols.

  • Mysqli:

    The mysqli extension allows you to access the functionality provided by MySQL 4.1 and above.

    Dependency: None

    NOTE: "mysql" Extension is not available in PHP 7.2. See for details about support of different MySQL APIs.

  • Pdo_mysql:

    PDO_MYSQL is a driver that implements the PHP Data Objects (PDO) interface to enable access from PHP to MySQL 3.x, 4.x and 5.x databases.

  • Xsl:

    The XSL extension implements the XSL standard, performing XSLT transformations using the libxslt library

  • SqLite3:

    Support for SQLite version 3 databases. Protocol (FTP)
    Note: In PHP of version 5.6.22 onwards, SqLite3 extension is in-built in core PHP, so it is not required to load it explicitly

  • Bcmath:

    For arbitrary precision mathematics PHP offers the Binary Calculator which supports numbers of any size and precision, represented as strings.

  • Calendar:

    The calendar extension presents a series of functions to simplify converting between different calendar formats. The intermediary or standard it is based on is the Julian Day Count.

  • PostgreSQL (

    Provides access to PostgreSQL databases.

    Dependency: None

  • Oracle :

    Allows access to Oracle databases. It uses the Oracle 8 call-Interface (OCI8). : Oracle 10.2.0 : Oracle 11g ( Available for 32-bit and 64-bit on Itanium server) : Oracle 12c ( Available for 32-bit and 64-bit on Itanium server)
    Needs Oracle client side libraries of corresponding version installed.

  • Ctype:

    The functions provided by this extension check whether a character or string falls into a certain character class according to the current locale.

  • Exif:

    With the exif extension you are able to work with image meta data.

  • Iconv:

    This module contains an interface to iconv character set conversion facility. With this module, you can turn a string represented by a local character set into the one represented by another character set, which may be the Unicode character set. Protocol (FTP)

  • Mbstring:

    This module provide multibyte specific string functions that help you deal with multibyte encodings in PHP.
