Overview

The ramD software is a routing daemon that implements multiple IPv6 routing unicast protocols. ramD is available as a Web upgrade on the HP-UX 11i v1 and HP-UX 11i v2 operating systems. ramD version 1.002 is available on the HP-UX 11i v1 operating system and ramD version 1.001 is available on the HP-UX 11i v2 operating system. Table 1 summarizes the versions of ramD available in the HP-UX operating sytem.

What Is Included in ramD?

The following lists the protocols that ramD includes:

  • Routing Information Protocol, Next Generation (RIPng)
  • Border Gateway Protocol (BGP4+)
  • Intermediate-system-to-Intermediate-system for IPv6(IS-IS IPv6)

RIPng

Routing Information Protocol, Next Generation (RIPng) is a version of the distance-vector routing protocol (RIP) modified for use with IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6). RIPng allows HP-UX servers to route IPv6 packets within a medium-sized autonomous system (AS).

BGP

Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), which supports IPv6, is an inter-autonomous system protocol. BGP transmits routing information across autonomous systems.

IS-IS

Intermediate-system to Intermediate-system (IS-IS) for IPv6 domains is a routing protocol defined for Connectionless Network Service (CLNS) traffic.

See HP-UX ramD Administrator's Guide, for more information.

Product Components and Availability

ramD contains the following components:

  • /usr/bin/ram_monitor – An interactive utility that is used to query the IPv6 routing daemons.
  • /usr/sbin/ramd – The RAM daemon.
  • /usr/bin/rdc – A utility that controls the routing daemons.
  • /usr/sbin/ripngd – The RIPng daemon.
  • /usr/sbin/bgpd – The BGP daemon.
  • /usr/sbin/isisd – The IS-IS daemon.
