Overview

HPE OneView for Microsoft System Center (HPE Storage Integrations) provides a comprehensive integration of HPE Storage, HPE Servers, HPE Blade System and HPE Virtual Connect with Microsoft System Center.  It provides administrators to manage and monitor their HPE infrastructure running in Microsoft environments with a "single pane-of-glass" view for system health and alerting, driver and firmware updates, OS deployment, detailed inventory, storage and VM management, and HPE fabric visualization.  Administrators can gain greater control of their technology environments reducing the risk of downtime and enabling a faster response.

HPE Storage Management Pack for System Center and HPE Fabric Management Add-in for System Center have now been included under HPE OneView for Microsoft System Center (HPE Storage Integrations) to provide a single repository of Microsoft System Center suite of products.

  • HPE OneView Storage System Management Pack

The HPE OneView Storage System Management Pack is part of the HPE OneView SCOM Integration Kit. It integrates the existing HPE 3PAR Storage MP and HPE Blade Systems/Virtual Connect MP to proactively monitor and manage the health of HPE Storage and Servers part of OneView. Additional Product Information

The following are helpful resources related to Operations Manager and its HPE Storage Management Pack:

Questions and Answers

Troubleshooting:

Q1: How to synchronize SCVMM UI cache & Data cache updates?
A1: If a Host/Cluster/Host Group SCVMM folder object is updated using SCVMM native interface e.g. Exporting Array LUNs or Removing Array LUNs, where the Disk LUNs count is very high, then it is recommended to initiate refresh using Data Cache Refresh icon on top right corner of the Add-in screen.

Additionally, if the Storage and VM information for HPE Storage resources disappears while exporting a volume to a host/cluster or when a new VM is created in SCVMM; it is recommended to perform a Data Cache Refresh.

Q2: After upgrade of the Fabric Management Add-in, should the HPE Storage systems and OneView be reconfigured?

A2: Yes. After you upgrade from previous version of Fabric Management Add-in, it is required to reconfigure the HPE Storage systems, OneView and vCenter in the Settings page.

Q3: Do I have to manually import/remove the HPE_Fabric_Management_Add-in.zip file into SCVMM console after installing/upgrade/uninstalling the Fabric Management Add-in

A3: No user action is required and the HPE_Fabric_Management_Add-in.zip file will auto import/remove in SCVMM console.

Q4: I am getting error "Add-in Service taking more time than expected to collect data for. If Problem persist for long, please refer Add-in documentation."
A4: This error occurs when Add-in takes more time to collect data from Add-service running where SCVMM Management Service is running. You may see this error while adding Host or Cluster to SCVMM with large number of LUNs already exported/presented to the added host or Exporting/Presenting large number of LUNs to hosts or cluster.

Solution for this error is to wait for couple of minutes, till Add-in gets details on storage related details of this host. The Add-in will still provide the details for those hosts/host groups or clusters which are not be effected by this change in SCVMM.

Q5: In the HPE Fabric Management Add-in for System Center, after installation, I am seeing data values as zero?
A5: This happens after the installation of HPE Fabric Management Add-in, when the first refresh cycle is in progress. Please wait for the refresh to get complete, before checking the data. To know how to check the status of refresh, refer "View Refresh status" section in HPE Fabric Management Add-in for System Center User Guide.pdf.

Q6: I am unable to view the Health Dashboard in HPE Storage Management Pack for System Center
A7: This occurs when the GUI controls are not loaded due to cached data in OpsMgr.

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:
1. In the CMD prompt, enter <OpsMgr Installed directory>\Console

For SCOM 2012 R2, navigate to the following the installed directory:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Operations Manager
2. Run Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.Console.exe /clearcache

Q8: I am unable to see all the ESX Virtual Machines in HPE Fabric Management Add-in pages created from a datastore that has LUNs from multiple storage arrays including HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage
A8: HPE Fabric Management Add-in pages will show the details of only those ESX/ESXi Virtual Machines that are created from a datastore with LUNs from unique HPE 3PAR StoreServ or HPE StoreVirtual storage only.

Q9: I am getting partial data or no data in one or more HPE Fabric Management Add-in screens
A9: This happens if no LUNs are present from any of the Arrays, a data refresh is in progress,

Arrays or any of its services are temporarily unavailable, connection to the Arrays is lost,
Arrays firmware is re-installed, and the provider configuration changed in SCVMM.
1. Click on Page Reload to reload the screen
2. Refresh the Data Cache
3. Verify the network connection to the Arrays
4. Check the provider configuration in SCVMM
5. Ensure that the required Arrays in Settings tab are authorized

Q10: Storage and VM information of HPE Storage system disappears in Add-in, when a new volume is exported to a host in VMM

A10: To see the latest information, perform a Data Cache Refresh in the Add-in.

Q11: VM path not displayed after VM creation

A11: To see the latest information, perform a Data Cache Refresh in the Add-in.

Q12: Add-in displays an error: HPE Fabric Management Add-in server not found on the VMM server at: VMM server IP

A12: Perform one of the following actions:

1. Start the service if the HPE Fabric Management Add-in is installed. Reinstall the Add-in if not found.

2. Restarting the SCVMM console with Run As Administrator option.

Q13: Unable to authorize the SCVMM Server/HPE Storage Systems/Add OneView in the Add-in Settings page if the SCVMM Server IP is changed

A13: This issue occurs if you authorize the SCVMM server in the Add-in settings page before changing the SCVMM server IP address. If the SCVMM server IP change is anticipated, un-authorize the SCVMM server from the Add-in Settings page before changing the SCVMM server IP. If the SCVMM Server is authorized in the Add-in Settings page and the SCVMM Server IP is changed, uninstall and install the server component Add-in.

Q14: In HPE Storage Management Pack for System Center, I have configured HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage, but Capacity dashboard displays error message “Data is not available. For more information check HPEStorageDevice.log”

A14: To display a capacity data of HPE 3PAR make sure HPE 3PAR WSAPI service is enabled and running state. Refer to the HPE Storage Management Pack for System Center User Guide for more information.

Q15: I am installing and Configuring HPE Storage Management Pack in secured environment, what are pre-requisite related to ports and permissions need to be considered.

A15: HPE Storage Management Pack requires user permission to edit or read registry key data, refer section “Installation prerequisites” in User Guide, FAQ section for more information related to Ports.

Platform Support:

Q1: What are the installation prerequisites for HPE Storage Management Pack and HPE Fabric Management Add-in for System Center?
A1: For a complete list of installation prerequisites, refer to the User Guide.

Q2: Why aren't my HPE informational events showing up as alerts under OpsMgr?
A2: The HPE Storage Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager only generates alerts in OpsMgr for critical and warning states. Check the events view for a complete view.

Q3: How do I configure HPE Storage Management Pack for different event flow models?
A3: Refer to the HPE Storage Management Pack for System Center User Guide for selecting event flow model.
